Those uses are spent across different accounts, not stacked on one. A card with three uses can help three accounts, one each.
What happens if I try anyway?
Nothing is lost. If a card does not fit the account, or that account already carries one, the apply screen tells you why and the card stays in your inventory for another account or a later purchase.
