It depends on the card, and each one states its scope on the front: Evaluation, Funded Sim, Any account, New account or Checkout. Evaluation cards act on evaluations, funded cards on funded simulated accounts, and Any account cards on either. New account cards open a fresh challenge, and Checkout cards apply to your next purchase. The apply screen only offers you the accounts a card is allowed to touch, so you cannot pick the wrong one.
